Sun damage is one of the major factors contributing to skin discoloration. Unfortunately most of us are drawn to the sun and have spent many hours absorbing its rays and its damage. Because sun damage happens over time we often don't even detect a problem until it's too late. Vascular lesions are skin blemishes from abnormal vessels located directly under the skin’s surface giving the skin a red appearance. Strawberry hemangiomas, port wine stains and spider veins are all forms of vascular lesions that can make us uncomfortable in our own skin.
The laser works by using an intense beam of light to gently remove damaged or diseases cells without harming the healthy cells around the area. Depending on the size, location, depth and color some lesions will take more than one treatment to be successfully removed. Sun/age spots and spider veins generally do well with one or two treatments but some darker deeper birthmarks may require additional treatments.
Alpine’s Aesthetician will start out by asking you a series of questions and examining the area you wish to be treated. Depending on your individual skin type and lesions she will be able to let you know if you are a good candidate for laser spider vein or sun/age spot removal.
The laser removal treatments vary in time depending on the area, size of lesions and the amount you wish to be treated; there may also be some discomfort. After your treatment the treated area will be wrapped and an ointment will be applied to promote healing. The area will scab up over the next few days as it begins to heal.
If an additional treatment is needed there should be a 4 to 8 week interval between treatments.
